Shangri-La Frontier returns on Sunday 10 January 2027. The official site has the date, the slot and the length, and it also quietly gives away the thing most coverage of this season is going to skip: the third season is largely not set in Shangri-La Frontier.

The 17:00 Sunday slot is the one Japanese broadcasters call “nichi-go”, a family friendly early evening position that the franchise has held since the first season. Two consecutive cours means the run continues without a seasonal break, so expect it to carry through to roughly mid 2027.
The part worth knowing: it leaves the game
The official introduction sets out where this picks up. Sunraku takes a short break from Shangri-La Frontier itself and accepts an invitation from Kei Uomi, better known as Oikatzo, to join a games festival called the Global Game Competition. Towa Amane, who plays as Pencilgon, comes along too.
What they are playing there is Galaxia Heroes: Chaos, a new VR fighting game built on the Shangri-La Frontier engine, and the opposition is the strongest professional team in the United States, Star Rain.
So a reader searching for the release date is likely to want the second fact more than the first. This is a tournament arc in a different game, not more Shangri-La Frontier dungeon crawling, and the season’s tagline is literally “chaos bursts”.
What has already been shown
The site has begun rolling out the tournament ahead of broadcast. In mid October it published a visual and a pre-match interview video for the first exhibition match, Nu2meg against Lucas Garcia, and a comment from Daiki Hamano, who voices Garcia as the American representative.
Putting exhibition matches out as standalone promotional pieces, months before episode one, is a reasonable sign of confidence in the arc.

The core team carries over, which matters for a series whose appeal rests on legible action in a busy setting rather than on spectacle.

Season 2 is streaming widely in Japan, with the official site listing ABEMA, Netflix, Prime Video, Disney Plus, U-NEXT, d Anime Store, Hulu, FOD, Lemino, TELASA, TVer and others. Outside Japan the series has been on Crunchyroll, and the official site links a Crunchyroll page for it.
No international arrangement has been announced specifically for the third season yet. Given the pattern of the first two, Crunchyroll is the reasonable expectation rather than a confirmed fact.

Our take
Taking a game series out of its game is a risk, and it is the right one here. The first two seasons were at their best when Sunraku was up against something designed to beat him, and a tournament against human professionals is a cleaner version of that than another unique monster. Two cours is also a vote of confidence, since that is a long commitment for a Sunday evening slot.
