Cyberpunk: Edgerunners 2 lands on Netflix on Tuesday 20 October 2026. It runs to ten episodes, Studio TRIGGER is animating again, and CD PROJEKT RED is once more behind the story. The one thing worth knowing before you clear your evening: this is not a continuation of David Martinez. It is a standalone series with a new cast, set in the same Night City.
Below is the confirmed date, what the official site and the press release actually say, the full cast in Japanese and English, the staff changes since 2022, and the theme song news that caught a lot of people off guard.

Cyberpunk: Edgerunners 2 release date and platform
The date came from CD PROJEKT RED’s own press release in August and is repeated on the official Edgerunners 2 site, which carries a plain banner reading “Coming to Netflix, 20 October 2026”. Netflix has it as an exclusive, so there is no second platform to check and no regional staggering to plan around.
| Premiere | Tuesday 20 October 2026 |
| Platform | Netflix, exclusive worldwide |
| Episodes | 10 |
| Studio | TRIGGER, with CD PROJEKT RED |
| Format | Standalone story, new cast |
| Source | The world of Cyberpunk 2077, created by Mike Pondsmith |
One detail nobody has confirmed: whether all ten episodes arrive at once. Netflix has not published a rollout, and neither the press release nor the official site mentions a weekly schedule. The precedent points one way, because the first series dropped its full ten episodes on 13 September 2022 in a single day. Treat that as a reasonable expectation rather than a promise.
Is this a sequel to David Martinez and season 1?
No, and the official wording is unusually direct about it. CD PROJEKT RED calls it “a standalone series” and the Edgerunners 2 site describes “a new story, fresh characters, and an even more raw, brutal take on the world of the dark future”. Every named character on the official character page is new. AniList does not even file it as a sequel; it lists the 2022 series only as a related entry rather than a prequel.
So you can watch this without having seen the first series. You will lose some texture, because Night City rewards familiarity, but no plot thread carries over. If you have never played the game either, that is fine too. The anime has always been written for people who have not.

The story and the new characters
Two men anchor it. Weak Kingsley was once called King, a veteran edgerunner at the top of the profession, and he now lives without chrome in the shadow of what he used to be. D is a Snake Nation netrunner hunting the person who wiped out his clan. Their paths cross, and the official premise promises a story about family, obsession and legacy.
The third lead is the interesting one. Roman Carax is a young cinephile trying to document real stories in a city that gave up film for braindance, and the official site frames the whole series through his lens. Talia Yang completes the quartet, raised in corpo towers and then hardened inside Maelstrom.
| Weak Kingsley | Kentaro Tone, and Clancy Brown in English |
| D | Koki Uchiyama, and Nazeeh Tarsha in English |
| Roman Carax | Momoka Terasawa, and Valeria Rodriguez in English |
| Talia Yang | Akari Kito, and Kimoy Lee in English |
| Avida Yang | Akemi Okamura |
| Kiril | Yasunori Matsumoto |
| Sal | Takashi Matsuyama |
| Jessie | Miho Okasaki |
Casting Clancy Brown as Weak is a statement in itself. The English dub premiered episode 1 at Anime Expo in July, which is earlier than Netflix usually shows a dub, so the English track is clearly not an afterthought here.

Who is making it, and what changed since 2022
TRIGGER is back, but almost the entire creative core has turned over. Kai Ikarashi directs, and this is his first time leading a series. Ichigo Kanno is lead character designer and chief animation director. Masahiko Otsuka writes, alongside Bartosz Sztybor, who produced the first series and is the main thread of continuity between the two.
Hiroyuki Imaishi, who directed the 2022 series, is credited on this one only for storyboarding the opening. You Yoshinari, who gave the first series its character design, is not on the sequel.
| Director | Kai Ikarashi, in his directorial debut |
| Series composition and script | Masahiko Otsuka, Bartosz Sztybor |
| Character design | Ichigo Kanno, who is also chief animation director |
| Music | Tsuneo Imahori |
| Opening storyboard | Hiroyuki Imaishi |
| Original creator | Mike Pondsmith |
That much turnover usually reads as a warning sign. Here it is closer to the point. The first series was an Imaishi show in tone as much as in credit, all velocity and heat. Handing it to a first time director with a different designer suggests TRIGGER wants this one to feel like its own thing rather than a second helping.

The opening theme is The Cure
This was the surprise of the Anime Expo panel in July. The opening is “10:15 Saturday Night” by The Cure, a song from 1979, which is an unusual choice for an anime about a city that has not been invented yet. The ending is “Watson” by Petite Meller.
For context, the first series built a lot of its identity on its music, and the needle drops did as much emotional work as the script. Reaching for a forty seven year old post punk track rather than a new commission says something about the register this one is aiming for.

Where to watch, and what to watch first
Netflix, everywhere, from 20 October. A subscription is the only requirement.
- If you have seen nothing. Start here. It is written to stand alone and the official material goes out of its way to say so.
- If you want the context anyway. The 2022 series is still on Netflix, ten episodes, and it takes an evening.
- If you played Cyberpunk 2077. You will catch the corpo names, Maelstrom and the Nomad clans without anyone explaining them, which is most of the pleasure.

Quick answers
When does Cyberpunk: Edgerunners 2 come out? Tuesday 20 October 2026, on Netflix.
How many episodes? Ten, the same as the first series.
Is David Martinez in it? No. It is a standalone story with an entirely new cast.
Do I need to play the game? No. The anime has never assumed you have.
Is there an English dub? Yes, and episode 1 screened in English at Anime Expo in July.
Who is making it? TRIGGER with CD PROJEKT RED, directed by Kai Ikarashi.
Our take
The first series worked because it was a small, brutal story told at full speed in a world built for sprawl. The risk here is scale, since three leads and a ten episode standalone is a wider canvas than one kid from Santo Domingo. The reassurance is that Bartosz Sztybor is still the one steering the story, and that TRIGGER has not tried to repeat the shape of the thing that worked.
We will have a full breakdown once the episodes land. In the meantime, our October 2026 anime premieres guide has every other date this month, and the weekly schedule page tracks what is airing right now. If TRIGGER is the draw for you rather than Cyberpunk, their other current production is covered in our Delicious in Dungeon season 2 guide.
Release dates and platform listings can change. This guide was checked against the official Cyberpunk: Edgerunners 2 site, the CD PROJEKT RED press release and AniList on 11 October 2026.
