Tougen Anki Season 2 is already airing. The Nikko and Kegon Falls Arc started in Japan on Friday 2 October 2026 at 23:30 JST, and episode 2 goes out on Friday 9 October at the same time. If you have been waiting for a date, you have missed the premiere by two days rather than months.
Here is the broadcast schedule, the episode count question, every place you can legally watch it, and who is making it. Everything below is checked against the official Japanese site, the official global site and AniList.

Tougen Anki Season 2 release date and broadcast schedule
The second season, titled Nikko and Kegon Falls Arc in English and 日光・華厳の滝編 in Japanese, premiered on 2 October 2026. It airs every Friday at 23:30 JST in the Nippon TV network’s FRIDAY ANIME NIGHT block, known in Japan as Furaani, across 30 stations nationwide. BS Nippon TV carries it separately from Monday 5 October, also at 23:30.
That makes the next few dates easy to plan around.

How many episodes is Tougen Anki Season 2?
AniList lists the season at 24 episodes. That figure is worth treating as a working number rather than a confirmation, because the official site has not published an episode count for the new season.
The precedent supports it. Season 1 also ran 24 episodes, and it was built as two consecutive cours with separate arc titles: the Kyoto Arc from 11 July 2025 and the Nerima Arc from October, finishing on 26 December 2025. The official English site still files all 24 of those episodes together under Kyoto and Nerima Arcs. If the Nikko and Kegon Falls Arc follows the same shape, it would run through winter and into spring 2027.
The honest answer today is that 24 is the listed figure and a two cour run is the sensible expectation, but nobody official has said so.
Where to watch Tougen Anki Season 2
Outside Japan, Crunchyroll holds the series and carries both seasons. The official global site also points to regional partners, including Animation Digital Network in France, Ani-Gamer in Taiwan, and Laftel and uflix in Korea, so the platform depends on where you are.
Inside Japan the picture is unusually layered, and the gap between tiers matters if you want to avoid spoilers.
- Earliest. ABEMA, d Anime Store, U-NEXT and Anime Hodai carry each episode from 2 October, Fridays at 24:30, straight after broadcast.
- Wider subscription. Netflix, Prime Video, Disney+, Hulu, DMM TV, FOD, Lemino, TELASA, WOWOW On Demand, Bandai Channel, J:COM STREAM, AnimeFesta and milplus follow from Monday 5 October at 24:30.
- Free. The latest episode is free on ABEMA on Fridays at 24:30, and TVer carries catch up from Thursday 8 October at 24:30.
The official site notes that streaming times can change, so treat the Monday tier as approximate rather than fixed.

The staff is unchanged, and that is the headline
Sequels usually arrive with a studio change or a new director, and this one does not. Studio Hibari returns, and so does the entire core team. Ato Nonaka directs again, Yukie Sugawara handles series composition and scripts, Ryouko Amisaki returns on character design, Kouta Yamamoto writes the music and Satoki Iida directs the sound. Hiroyuki Hashimoto returns as assistant director, Scott MacDonald as art director and Naoki Serizawa as director of photography.
For a show whose first season drew criticism for its action animation, continuity cuts both ways. It means no adjustment period and no tonal reset. It also means the production is betting that more time, rather than different people, is what the second season needed.

Cast
The Japanese cast returns in full. Kazuki Ura plays Shiki Ichinose, Hiroshi Kamiya plays Naito Mudano and Koutarou Nishiyama plays Jin Kougasaki. Shougo Sakata is Ikari Yaoroshi, Natsuki Hanae is Jyuuji Yusurube and Manaka Iwami is Homare Byobugaura.
Opening and ending themes
The new season’s opening is performed by Hiromitsu Kitayama, and the ending comes from TRACK15. Both are new to the series.
For reference, Season 1 ran four themes across its two cours. The Kyoto Arc opened with THE ORAL CIGARETTES and closed with BAND-MAID. The Nerima Arc switched to AMIDAKUJI by CHOGAKUSEI on the opening and ACTION by eill on the ending.

What Tougen Anki is actually about
Shiki Ichinose grows up as an ordinary human until a man from the Momotaro Agency attacks him without warning. Fleeing with his foster father, he learns two things at once: his pursuers are descendants of Momotaro, the folk hero of the peach boy story every Japanese child knows, and he himself carries Oni blood.
The premise is a straight inversion of the folk tale. In the original, Momotaro is the hero and the Oni are the monsters he sails off to defeat. Here the Oni are people, the hunt has run for thousands of years, and the story sits with the side the legend was written against.
Season 1 covered the Kyoto Arc and the Nerima Arc. The new season moves to Nikko in Tochigi Prefecture and to Kegon Falls, one of the most recognisable waterfalls in Japan, which tells you roughly where the story is heading without spoiling how it gets there.

The manga, and how big this franchise actually is
Tougen Anki is written and drawn by Yura Urushibara and has run in Akita Shoten’s Weekly Shonen Champion since June 2020. The Japanese official site now puts the manga at more than 6.5 million copies in print, which is a notable jump from the 3 million the English site quoted when the anime was first announced.
The anime is the second part of a deliberate three stage plan. The Tougen Anki Project launched in June 2023 with a stage play, the TV anime followed as the second instalment, and a game was announced as the third. That ordering is unusual and it explains why the anime arrived with a complete multi season plan rather than a single test cour.

Should you catch up before episode 2?
Season 1 sits at an average score of 68 on AniList with just under 78,000 users tracking it, which puts it in the solid but not beloved band. The new season is currently scoring 70 from a much smaller sample, so early viewers are marginally warmer on it.
Twenty four episodes is a real commitment, and the season is only one episode deep, so there is still time. If you want to arrive for episode 2 without watching all of Season 1, the Kyoto Arc establishes the premise and the Nerima Arc does most of the work on the supporting cast, which is the part the new arc will build on.
