Barely three months after its first season finished, The Ramparts of Ice Season 2 is the very first big premiere of fall 2026. Studio KAI’s adaptation of Koucha Agasawa’s quietly devastating school drama returns on the first Thursday of October with the same director and writer, a new opening from THE BEAT GARDEN, an ending by Superfly, and the four leads exactly where season 1 left them: closer than friends and unable to say so. The Ramparts of Ice Season 2 release date
Season 2 premieres on Thursday, 1 October 2026 at 23:56 JST, broadcast simultaneously across all 28 stations of the TBS network. AT-X follows from Sunday 4 October at 22:30, with repeats on Thursday early mornings (04:30) and Sunday mornings (07:30).
Streaming starts a day later: Netflix carries each episode first from Friday 2 October, ahead of Prime Video, Disney+, U-NEXT, ABEMA, d Anime Store, Hulu Japan and the other domestic services, which pick it up from 9 October. Season 1 was a Netflix title internationally as well, and the official site’s own listing puts Netflix at the front of the queue again, though Netflix has not yet published a global date for season 2.
The turnaround is unusually fast. Season 1 ran from 2 April to 2 July 2026, and the second season was announced as the first was ending, so viewers get the second half of the story after a single summer’s break rather than the usual year or more.

What the story is about
Koyuki Hikawa keeps everyone at arm’s length. She is so composed and so uninterested in small talk that her classmates call her “the Queen”, and the only person who ever sees her relax is Miki Azumi, the childhood friend from the same housing block who happens to be the most popular girl in school. That balance breaks when Minato Amamiya, a boy with no concept of personal space, decides Koyuki is worth talking to and simply refuses to stop, while his gentle, basketball-playing best friend Yota Hino has spent years quietly in love with Miki.
Season 1 followed the four of them through the first year of high school: the classroom politics around Miki, the fallout when her reputation curdles, Koyuki learning that her silence hurts people as much as any insult, and Minato’s relentless friendliness slowly becoming something he cannot name. It ended with the wall Koyuki built around herself visibly cracking, and Yota still holding back.
Season 2 picks up from there. According to the official synopsis, Koyuki and Minato start to recognise that what has grown between them is no longer friendship, while Yota finally confesses the feelings he has carried for years. Some of the four say what they mean; others keep hiding it, and their paths keep crossing and missing each other. The anime has not confirmed how many manga volumes the season adapts, but with a 14-volume finished source and 14 episodes already used, a full adaptation to the ending is plausible rather than guaranteed.
Where the manga stands
The Ramparts of Ice by Koucha Agasawa ran from May 2018 to April 2022 and is complete at 14 volumes, published by Shueisha under the Jump Comics label with the Margaret editorial department behind it. It was a word-of-mouth hit long before the anime; Agasawa wrote on the official site that an adaptation was “a future I could not have imagined” while the series was running, and that they still did not quite believe it. An official English edition of the manga has not been announced.

In Japan: TBS network stations on Thursday nights, AT-X from Sunday 4 October, and Netflix streaming from Friday 2 October, a week ahead of Prime Video, Disney+, U-NEXT and the rest. Internationally, Netflix streamed season 1 worldwide and is the expected home for season 2, but Netflix has not confirmed a release date outside Japan yet. Why this sequel matters
The Ramparts of Ice was the quiet critical favourite of spring 2026: a school romance with no gimmick beyond people who cannot say what they feel, animated with restraint and carried by Anna Nagase’s near-silent lead performance. It finished the season among the highest-rated shows on AniList, and its problem was only ever that it stopped halfway through the manga. A second half arriving three months later, from the same director and writer, is the rare sequel that can treat the whole story as one piece.
