Fullmetal Alchemist Brotherhood Remaster: There Isn’t One

There is no Fullmetal Alchemist Brotherhood remaster. No 4K release, no HDR restoration, no October 2026 date. Nothing of the kind has been announced by Bones, Aniplex, Square Enix or any broadcaster.

This page previously said a remaster was confirmed for 3 October 2026, announced by Aniplex at a Summer 2026 expo, with two years of restoration work and a staggered regional rollout. None of that came from a source. It was rewritten on 4 October 2026, the day after the date it had invented.

What was actually checked

  • AniList holds three Brotherhood entries: the 64 episode series from 5 April 2009 to 4 July 2010, a four part OVA collection, and a 16 part 4-Koma special. No remaster, no re-release, no 2026 entry.
  • No announcement from Bones or Aniplex appears anywhere searchable.
  • The specifics the page gave, the 3 October date, the expo announcement, the per region rollout table, do not correspond to anything on record.

Blu-ray box sets of Brotherhood exist and have been reissued over the years. A box set is not a remaster, and that is the most likely seed of the confusion.

What Hiromu Arakawa actually has in production

This is the part worth knowing, because it is real and the page omitted it entirely.

Daemons of the Shadow Realm, adapted from Arakawa’s manga Yomi no Tsugai, ran 24 episodes from 4 April to 19 September 2026 at Bones. It finished two weeks ago. A second season has been announced, with no date given.

So if you came here looking for new Arakawa anime from the people who made Brotherhood, that is it, and it aired this year while this page was telling you about a remaster that does not exist.

Brotherhood, the actual record

Episodes 64
Broadcast 5 April 2009 to 4 July 2010
Studio Bones
Original work Hiromu Arakawa, published by Square Enix
Also exists A four part OVA collection and the 4-Koma Theater shorts

Brotherhood follows the manga through to its ending, which is the difference between it and the 2003 series. That earlier adaptation caught up with the manga while it was still running and finished with an original story instead, which is why both exist and why people argue about them.

Which one to watch

If you want Arakawa’s story as she wrote it, watch Brotherhood. If you want the 2003 version, watch it afterwards and treat it as a separate take rather than a draft. Watching Brotherhood first spoils less, because the 2003 series diverges roughly a third of the way in.

Both are widely available, and the picture quality is what it has always been. If a genuine restoration is ever announced, it will come from Aniplex or Bones directly and this page will be updated then.

What was corrected on this page

  • It said a 4K HDR remaster had been “greenlit” by Bones and Aniplex. No such project exists.
  • It gave a release date of 3 October 2026 and credited the announcement to an expo. Neither is real.
  • It described two years of restoration work and named episodes 54 to 64 as receiving the most attention. Invented.
  • It carried a table of regional streaming rollout dates across Crunchyroll and Netflix. Invented.
  • Its images were from the OVA collection rather than the series.
  • It did not mention Daemons of the Shadow Realm, Arakawa’s actual anime, which aired and finished this year.

Frequently asked questions

Is there a Fullmetal Alchemist Brotherhood 4K remaster?

No. Nothing has been announced.

Was a remaster ever confirmed for 2026?

No. Pages saying so, including an earlier version of this one, were not based on any source.

Is there any new Fullmetal Alchemist anime?

Not of Fullmetal Alchemist itself. Arakawa’s Daemons of the Shadow Realm ran at Bones from April to September 2026 and has a second season announced.

How many episodes is Brotherhood?

Sixty four, from April 2009 to July 2010.

Should I watch Brotherhood or the 2003 series first?

Brotherhood. The 2003 series diverges from the manga and spoils less if watched second.

Rewritten 4 October 2026 after a fact check against AniList and a search for any announcement from Bones or Aniplex. No remaster exists.

Other anime people are told are confirmed, and are not: Overlord Season 5, Vinland Saga Season 3, Attack on Titan in 2026, a Naruto Shippuden remaster, a Tokyo Ghoul reboot, an Evangelion remaster, Kakegurui Season 3, Spy x Family Season 3 and Re:Zero Season 4. Each of those pages says what has actually been announced, and nothing more.
