If you have searched for an Attack on Titan 2026 special, you have probably found pages announcing a two part finale, theatrical dates and a MAPPA presentation at AnimeJapan. None of that happened. There is no new Attack on Titan anime in 2026, and no studio has announced one.
What is real in 2026 is a cinema re-release, a commemorative illustration and a video game with a MAPPA opening attached to it. Here is the whole picture, with dates, and where the anime actually finished.
There is no new Attack on Titan anime in 2026
The anime ended in November 2023. Attack on Titan Final Season THE FINAL CHAPTERS Special 2 was the last broadcast, and it adapted the end of Hajime Isayama’s manga. There is no continuation in production, no announced sequel and no split finale.
Producer Tetsuya Kinoshita has spoken in general terms about future films and collaborations, without naming a project or a date. That is the only thread anyone has, and a tease without a title is not an announcement.
What MAPPA actually did on its 15th anniversary
MAPPA marked its 15th anniversary on 19 June 2026. For Attack on Titan, the studio released a commemorative key visual of Mikasa, revealed on 17 June, drawn by Tomohiro Kishi with layout by Yuichiro Hayashi, digital paint by Iku Onishi and composition by Yusuke Tannawa. It was the second piece in a three part key visual project.
It is artwork. No Attack on Titan production was announced alongside it. The anniversary did carry real news for other titles, which is part of why the Attack on Titan rumours spread: people saw MAPPA, an anniversary and a new visual, and filled in the rest.
The Last Attack returned to cinemas on 18 May 2026
Attack on Titan: THE LAST ATTACK is the 2024 MAPPA compilation film that condenses the finale into roughly two and a half hours. It first opened in Japan in November 2024.
Crunchyroll brought it back to North American screens on 18 May 2026 as part of its monthly Anime Nights programme, screening at 7pm local time in more than 280 theatres across the United States and Canada, including AMC, Regal, Cinemark, Landmark and Alamo Drafthouse. That was its second theatrical outing of the year.
This is the closest thing to a 2026 Attack on Titan event, and it is a re-release of existing animation rather than anything new.
The real 2026 project is a game, and MAPPA is animating its opening
Attack on Titan 3, the next entry in Koei Tecmo’s action game series, was revealed at Summer Game Fest 2026. It is scheduled for 10 December 2026 on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X and S, Nintendo Switch 2 and PC through Steam.
On 1 July 2026, during a 45 minute gameplay presentation, Koei Tecmo confirmed that MAPPA is producing a dedicated opening cinematic for the game, directed by Arifumi Imai, the action animator closely associated with the series. The cinematic will not be in the game at launch. It is coming later as a free post launch update.
So MAPPA is making new Attack on Titan animation in 2026. It is an opening for a game, not an episode, and it arrives after 10 December rather than on it.

How to finish the story today
If you stopped partway through The Final Season, you have two routes. Watch Part 2 and then both FINAL CHAPTERS specials, which is the complete version. Or watch THE LAST ATTACK, which compresses the two specials into one film and is the faster option if you only need the ending.
The manga finished in April 2021, so nothing in the anime is waiting on the source material. There is no cliffhanger left open and no missing adaptation.
