Correction, 12 October 2026. An earlier version of this guide said an Overlord Season 5 release date had been confirmed, named 4 October 2026 as the premiere, described trailers and promotional clips, and listed a confirmed English dub cast and an episode breakdown. None of that was true. There has been no announcement of a fifth season. That version has been removed and the page rewritten to say only what is on the record.
The short answer: Overlord Season 5 has not been announced. Not by Kadokawa, not by Madhouse, not by the official site. There is no date, no studio confirmation for a new season, no cast announcement and no trailer.
What follows is the actual state of the franchise, and what would normally have to happen before a fifth season could be scheduled.
Where Overlord actually stands
| Last television season | Overlord IV, 5 July to 27 September 2022, 13 episodes |
| Most recent anime | OVERLORD: The Sacred Kingdom, a film, 20 September 2024 |
| Season 5 | Not announced |
| Release date | None exists |
| Studio for a new season | Not announced |
Overlord IV ended in September 2022 and closed on the setup for the Holy Kingdom story. That story then went to cinemas rather than television, as The Sacred Kingdom in September 2024. So the franchise has not been dormant. It simply has not returned to a television format, and nobody has said it will.
Why you keep seeing a date
Search for this and you will find pages giving a confirmed premiere, a studio switch, even an episode count. They cite each other rather than a primary source. Our own earlier version of this page was one of them, which is why the correction sits at the top rather than buried.
The checks worth doing on any claim like this are quick. A real season announcement produces a dated press release on the official site, an entry on AniList and Anime News Network, and a key visual. For Overlord Season 5, none of those exist. A tweet, an aggregator page or a video thumbnail is not an announcement.
What would have to happen first
- A formal announcement. Kadokawa usually does this at an anniversary event, an AnimeJapan panel or alongside a light novel release.
- A production credit. Madhouse animated all four seasons and the film, but nothing commits them to a fifth.
- Source material. Kugane Maruyama’s light novel is still running, and the anime has been tracking it closely.
Until the first of those lands, any date you read is somebody’s guess wearing a confident sentence.

While you wait
Our weekly schedule tracks every series currently airing, and the October 2026 premieres guide covers what is starting this month.
Checked against AniList, Anime News Network and the official Overlord site on 12 October 2026. This page states only what has been announced. If that changes, the correction note above will be replaced with the news.
Other sequels people think are confirmed and are not: Vinland Saga Season 3, where a January 2026 rumour turned out to be a misread interview from a year earlier.
Other anime people are told are confirmed, and are not: Vinland Saga Season 3, Attack on Titan in 2026, a Naruto Shippuden remaster, a Tokyo Ghoul reboot, an Evangelion remaster, a Fullmetal Alchemist Brotherhood remaster, Kakegurui Season 3, Spy x Family Season 3 and Re:Zero Season 4. Each of those pages says what has actually been announced, and nothing more.
