There is no Evangelion 2026 remaster. No 4K restoration, no re-release, nothing of the kind announced by Studio Khara or anyone else.
This page previously said a remaster had been confirmed. It was rewritten on 4 October 2026 after a fact check. What is real, and what this page now covers, is a brand new Evangelion anime series announced on 23 February 2026.

The new Evangelion series: what is confirmed
Announced at the close of the Evangelion:30+ 30th Anniversary of Evangelion event on 23 February 2026, introduced as the franchise’s “Next Genesis”.
| Format | A new anime series |
| Studios | Studio Khara with CloverWorks |
| Writer | Yoko Taro, of NieR: Automata |
| Directors | Kazuya Tsurumaki, of the Rebuild films, and Toko Yatabe |
| Music | Keiichi Okabe, of the NieR games |
| Title | Not revealed |
| Story | Not revealed |
| Release date | Not announced |
Two things are worth noting carefully, because they are where speculation starts. Hideaki Anno was not named in the announcement. He has been attached to every major Evangelion project, so his absence from the credits list is conspicuous, but absence from one announcement video is not a statement that he is uninvolved. And the reveal gave no plot at all, so anyone describing what the series is about is guessing.
Why there is no remaster
The confusion is understandable. Evangelion has been restored and re-released several times already, and the 30th anniversary in 2026 was exactly the kind of occasion a remaster would be announced at. What actually happened at the anniversary event was the new series reveal, plus a 30th anniversary special screening in February 2026.
If a genuine restoration is ever announced it will come from khara directly. This page gets updated then, and not before.

What already exists, in order
- Neon Genesis Evangelion, the 1995 television series, 26 episodes.
- Evangelion: Death & Rebirth and The End of Evangelion, both 1997. The latter is the alternative ending to the series and is not optional if you want the story resolved.
- The Rebuild of Evangelion films, four of them, ending with 3.0+1.0 Thrice Upon a Time in 2021. A retelling that diverges substantially.
- The new series, announced February 2026, no date.
The series and the two 1997 films are on Netflix in most territories. The Rebuild films are on Amazon Prime Video.

Where a newcomer should start
Start with the 1995 series, then watch The End of Evangelion. That is the original work as it was made, and it is what the new series will be read against.
The Rebuild films are worth watching afterwards rather than instead. They begin as a retelling and then become something else, and that turn lands much harder if you already know what is being changed.

What was corrected on this page
- It said an Evangelion remaster had been confirmed for 2026. No remaster has been announced.
- It attributed the project to “Studio Khara and GAINAX’s legendary successor project”. No such project exists.
- Its key visual was from The End of Evangelion while the page described a remaster of the series.
- It did not mention the new series announced in February 2026, which is the real news and what readers are now looking for.
- An em dash was removed, in line with how this site writes.

Rewritten 4 October 2026 after a fact check against AniList and the 23 February 2026 announcement. No remaster exists.
Other anime people are told are confirmed, and are not: Overlord Season 5, Vinland Saga Season 3, Attack on Titan in 2026, a Naruto Shippuden remaster, a Tokyo Ghoul reboot, a Fullmetal Alchemist Brotherhood remaster, Kakegurui Season 3, Spy x Family Season 3 and Re:Zero Season 4. Each of those pages says what has actually been announced, and nothing more.
