There is no new Hunter x Hunter anime. Nothing has been announced, no studio is attached, no premiere window exists, and there was no Jump Festa reveal. If you have found pages saying a 2026 return was confirmed with a trailer, those pages are wrong.
What is real in 2026 is the manga, which came back from hiatus, ran for ten weeks and then stopped again. Here is the actual position on both, with dates.
No new anime has been announced
The last Hunter x Hunter anime is still the 2011 Madhouse series. It ran 148 episodes and finished on 24 September 2014. AniList lists no Hunter x Hunter television series, film or special in production or scheduled, and no studio has said it is making one.
A continuation has been rumoured for over a decade, for an obvious reason: the 2011 series adapted the manga up to the end of the Hunter Chairman Election arc, and everything after that has never been animated. That leaves the Dark Continent Expedition and the Succession Contest, which is a substantial amount of story. The gap is real. The announcement is not.
Why a sequel is harder than it looks
The obstacle is not studio interest, it is source material. An anime continuation needs a manga that keeps moving, and Hunter x Hunter has not reliably done that since 2014. Adapting into an unfinished, intermittently published story risks catching up to it within a single cour and then stalling, which is the exact problem the 2011 series avoided by starting from the beginning.
Until the manga is running consistently, or far enough ahead, a sequel announcement is unlikely regardless of how much demand there is.
What actually happened with the manga in 2026
The manga returned to Weekly Shonen Jump with chapter 411 on 29 June 2026, after almost two years away. Chapters 412 to 420 followed across the summer, with chapter 420 published on 6 September 2026, completing a ten chapter run.
Yoshihiro Togashi has said he has manuscripts completed up to chapter 421. On 5 October 2026 he spoke about his workload, explaining that physical and mental health problems have changed how he handles professional requests. He did not announce a cancellation and he did not give a return date.
So the honest summary is that the manga is alive, it is ahead of publication, and when it resumes is not known.
Where to watch what exists
The 2011 series is the one to watch and it is widely available on the major streaming services depending on your region. The 1999 adaptation by Nippon Animation, the two 2013 films and the Greed Island and Yorknew City OVAs all exist, but the 2011 run is the complete and current version of the story up to the Election arc.
