Correction, 12 October 2026. An earlier version of this page said a Vinland Saga Season 3 release date had been officially confirmed and set out an episode guide for it. That was not true. No third season has been announced. The page has been rewritten to state only what is on the record.
Vinland Saga Season 3 has not been announced. MAPPA has not confirmed it, the production committee has not confirmed it, there is no date, no staff list, no trailer and no AniList entry. Anything you read giving a 2026 or 2027 premiere is a guess.
What is actually on the record
| Season 3 | Not announced |
| Release date | None exists |
| Studio | Not announced for a third season |
| Season 2 | 24 episodes, 10 January to June 2023, MAPPA |
| Season 1 | 24 episodes, from 8 July 2019, WIT STUDIO |
| Manga | Finished, July 2025 |
The rumour, and what the author said about it
A claim went round in January 2026 that a third season was in production. It traces back to a misread interview: Makoto Yukimura spoke to Le Monde in January 2025, a year earlier, and said a continuation was in preparation. That got recycled twelve months later as fresh news.
Yukimura answered it himself on X, saying he was not aware of any such announcement and that he was looking forward to the anime continuing. When the original author says he has not heard about it, there is no announcement.
Why a third season is still likely, even unannounced
The case for it is good, which is exactly why so many pages invent a date. The manga finished in July 2025, so the ending exists and the adaptation has somewhere to land. Season 2 was well received. The series has already survived one studio change, from WIT STUDIO to MAPPA, so the production is not fragile.
The case against a near date is MAPPA’s schedule, which is committed well ahead. None of that is an announcement either way. It just means silence now is ordinary rather than a bad sign.
How to tell a real announcement from a recycled one
- A primary source. MAPPA’s own channels, the official Vinland Saga accounts, or a publisher event. Not an aggregator, not a thumbnail.
- A key visual. Sequels are announced with art, almost without exception.
- An AniList and ANN entry. Both appear within hours of a genuine announcement. Neither exists here.
- A date on the record. “In preparation” is not a date, and a year old interview is not news.

While you wait
Our weekly schedule tracks what is airing now, and the October 2026 premieres guide covers what is starting this month.
Checked against AniList, Anime News Network and the author’s own statements on 12 October 2026. This page will be updated when there is an announcement to report.
A similar case worth reading: Attack on Titan in 2026, where a page on this site once described an announcement that never happened.
Other anime people are told are confirmed, and are not: Overlord Season 5, Attack on Titan in 2026, a Naruto Shippuden remaster, a Tokyo Ghoul reboot, an Evangelion remaster, a Fullmetal Alchemist Brotherhood remaster, Kakegurui Season 3, Spy x Family Season 3 and Re:Zero Season 4. Each of those pages says what has actually been announced, and nothing more.
