We took a look at the light novel sales for the previous 12 volumes. They sold on average 15000 copies per volume. As for the latest 13^th volume, it had a sale of around 13000 copies. So, obviously, the light novel sales for this year are not that great so far.

For a series like Kenja No Mago, selling anything below 200000 is unfortunate especially if there as anime adaption of that light novel. For the possibility of a sequel, that series should at least sell print copies near a figure of 40K to 50K for each volume.

Even some older Isekai series such as Accel World sells around 50K copies per volume but still hasn’t any new s about Accel World Season 2.

Manga sales:

The volume 13 of the Wise Man’s Grandchild manga series sold about 65K copies during its first week of release. As for volume 14, it recorded a sale of 100K in the first week. This means that as far as manga slake goes, they are doing great. The reason people love to read the manga story of the Wise Man’s Grandchild is because it is more illustrative to grab attention of reader. These manga sales are OK but if the light novel could sell as many copies then future of Wise Man’s Grandchild is all set.

The sales for the Goblin Slayer manga series are also same to Kenja No Mago. So, we can expect a little hope for Goblin Slayer Season 2.

Merchandise:

There are 3 figurines at the moment available for the Wise Man’s Grandchild franchise but they are all of the character Sicily. Other than that, franchise also released 40 merchandises. This much merchandise and figurines is a decent for an anime which only had 1 season.

While these figures are decent, they are still not that much for an anime that is looking for a sequel. Also, these numbers do not seem to increase in 2020 and there is no news on new merchandise items.

Game:

Good news for the franchise is that they have released news about a Kenja No Mago game for 2020. Well, we dug into that and found that it is still waiting a release date. So when it releases, we will update the numbers.

In some cases, mobile games based off an anime usually pay off the budget for the sequel’s production. Fine examples of it are Konosuba Season 3 and Overlord Season 4. The game is only available in Japanese.

All of the stuff that we explained above is what offers the most revenue for an anime series. Other than that, there are many other streams for little profits for a franchise. Some of them are OST tracks, sales for the opening & ending songs, web radio, streaming licenses for Hulu, Funimation and Crunchyroll.

The sales for the anime series is not that high; merchandise release and manga sales are also no that bright. Still, combing all of it, it gives off a decent figure. If the mobile game releases soon and performs well, there could be an improvement in chances for the Wise Man’s Grandchild Season 2.

Making an anime is not a cheap business and certainly not for a one cour anime like Noragami. A series like this can cost upto 3 million dollars. And the whole point behind making an anime series is to rake in the profit for investors rather than making fans happy. So the chances for a sequel anime season are based on how well the previous seasons performed.

With this in mind, we will now be checking to see how great of a job 2 previous Noragami seasons did in terms of sales & profits. This is because, most anime franchises do not get past 1^st or 2^nd season as they failed to earn substation amount of profits to fund future of the franchise.

A good profit drop in a sequel season is around 25 percent compared to the previous season. An example of it is Konosuba and why there is hope for Konosuba Season 3.

Blu-Ray sales:

The sales of the blu-ray disks for first season of Noragami were about 5000 while for season 2, they were at 2000. Also, its first season had a BD box released in September of 2015 which had a sale of around 500 boxes.

This is more than a 60 percent dip on the sales of the BD box as compared to blu-ray disks. Still, as we have said again and again, blu-ray and BD sales do not matter for a future of an anime an longer. The reason is the main money is now in the streaming platforms.

Manga sales:

We decided to first go through the sales of the penultimate manga volume of Noragami; volume no. 21. It had a sale of about 120K copies. As for the latest volume no. 22, it had a sale of roughly 48K in its first week of release. After that the numbers are only increasing at a slow pace so we will update them after they are final.

Back when Noragami volume 12 was released, it was selling around 300K copies per volume. But now with each passing volume, these sale numbers are dropping. Same was the case for Accel World manga and this is why there is no news yet on Accel World Season 2.

Merchandise:

This was quite depressing to learn that Noragami only has 4 figurines for its characters like Yato, Iki, Hyori, and Bishamon. We were so shocked that we double checked this figure and it was still 4.

Well, it is still more than what Tokyo Ravens had, which is big fat 0. Still, for a mid-tier shounen manga series like Noragami, with a great fan following, we were hoping this number to be 10. However, they do have 450 different merchandise items, which is an acceptable figure. Now the problem of this figure is that these numbers are mainly from Season 1 release and that is 80 percent of them. The 2^nd season only released 20 percent of these merchandise items.

All the things we have stated above are the main things we take into consideration for sales & profits. Still, there are more but we cannot exampling all of them here. Other ways for an anime franchise to earn money is via Soundtracks, opening & ending songs, international streaming licenses for Hulu, Funimation and Crunchyroll, and other collaborations.

CONCLUSION:

What we can see from this section is that Noragami Season 2 performed way worse as compared to Season 1. There was a drop of about 50 percent in sales & profits. Even its manga is performing badly with each passing volume release; almost half of what it used to do.

For Noragami Season 1 to have its 2^nd season, it is safe to say that it was quite popular. But if Noragami Aragoto is not popular, what would be the point in making the Noragami Season 3. To better know the chances for 3^rd season happening, we will be taking a look at the franchise’s popularity after Season 2.

If the popularity is holding up like Overlord and why there will be Overlord Season 4, we can’t say that the same will be the case for Noragami.

What a series’ popularity means is how active it is on social media platforms and how fans are reacting to it. This means examining the series’ Google trends, social media activity, official website, number of print copies, release of new merchandise and other such stuff. This will allow us to understand the recent popularity percentage of Noragami in 2020.

Social Media:

The Noragami series’ official website had the last update back in September of 2019. This update was news of rebroadcasting of the Noragami Season 1 and Noragami Season 2 aka “Noragami Aragoto”. The official twitter account of the franchise has upto 107K followers. The last tweet on the account was made back in December of 2019 and was about the same rebroadcasting news.

Google Trends:

The one plus point for Noragami, we could gather from Google, was that the 2^nd season was much more popular as compared to first season. We were thinking it to be opposite as the sales of 2n season were half of the first season.

The current popularity for this franchise is at 15 percent of what it was back at its peak in 2016 for 2^nd season.

Manga:

Fans might find it interesting to know that the author of Noragami is not a single person; instead it is 2 female mangakas. Also, one these authors are having serious health issues. This is the main reason why the release rate of the manga is so slow for these last few years.

We tried to gather information about total number of print copies for Noragami manga but alas, we never did. A good estimate for a series like Noragami is to have 5 Million+ copies.

Merchandise:

Back in 2016, the Noragami series was having its steady release of the new merchandise items. But after 2017, the release rate has gotten really slow with only few merchandise items making it to stores. Some of these items include phone cases. As for 2018 and 2019, there was almost nothing released or announced. On a recheck in 2020, we found that this year too, there was new merchandise release.

CONCLUSION:

From the standpoint of popularity, it is nowhere close to where it was at its peak and the sales have drop by 50 percent too. No new merchandises have been lased and coupled with slow manga lease rate, this popularity is also lacking.

Why is there no news about Noragami Season 3?

After doing all the research, we believe that there are two reasons for this. The first and foremost is that the Noragami 2^nd Season was not recovered well and this also led to a decrease in manga sales.

As for the 2^nd reason, it might because one of the female authors of the franchise is ill. This led to even a one-year long break for the manga series and it never got its popularity back from then on.

So to sum all of this up, we would say that for the next few years or at least 2 years, there will be a minuscule chance for the release of Noragami Season 3. The studio that gave us the first 2 of these seasons is currently working on another series My Hero Academia Season 5 for year 2021. So, yes there is little doubt about Noragami Season 3 happening in 2021 much less in 2020.

The No Game No Life Season 1 aired back in 2014. It was adapted from the light novel volumes 1 to 3. There was also a movie release of the franchise by the name “No Game No Life Zero” which covered the entire volume 6 o the light novel. This tells us that the story for the No Game No Life next season will start from Volume 4.

We conclude from our analysis that there are still 6 more volumes of the light novels that have not been adapted into anime. These volumes are enough to give fans at least 2 more season or 1 season and 2 movies. The bad news here is that of the last 2 years, the author has been on a long hiatus. Any great anime series takes around 3 Million dollars for its making. No Game No Life is a highly popular series that nearly cost around 4 million dollars to make its first season. So in this sale & profit section of our analysis, we will see profits from both the season and the movie release. If the movie performed average or poor on the box office, it could negatively affect the chances for a sequel happening. An example of it is Goblin Slayer Season 2 which is not going to happen due to the movie bombing on box office.

Blu-Ray sales:

The anime was released in Japan on 6 disks and each of them was sold for an average of about 9000 copies. This series also got its BD-box which was released on 24^th February 2016 and had a sale of about 1000 copies. Any anime series that gets to around a sale of 10000 copies, it has a great chance for having its sequel. Well, that is unless that series is Accel World, which despite its amazing sales numbers is waiting on news about Accel World Season 2.

Light Novel sales:

The No Game No Life volume 9 of the light novel was released back on 25^th August 2016 and had a sale of about 160K copies. As for the latest volume 10, it was released back in 2018 with a sale of 170K copies. These numbers indicate that light novel sales are not the main moneymaker for the franchise. Still, they are outstanding numbers which makes it to be in list of Top 5 Best light novel sellers for each volume. These numbers are on par with highly popular novels like Overlord and everyone is sure about Overlord Season 4 happening.

Merchandise:

No Game No Life has 40 figurines available with majority of them of the characters Siro, Jibril, Stephanie, Shiro, and Izuna. The franchise also has 500 other minor merchandise items like a tapestry, mugs, shirts, towels, etc.

The merchandise sales are doing quite well in Japan as well as in the world. A big part of revenue comes from merchandise sales and this gives us hope for No Game No Life Season 2. The release of the movie also helped to boost these merchandise sales which normally doesn’t happen.

We are even surprised to know that even in 2020; lots of figurines for the series are being made. It has been 3 years since the last light novel volume and movie release but in 2020, the franchise released 6 new figurines.

No Game No Life Movie:

The movie of the franchise No Game No Life Zero did a box office business or about 700 million Japanese yen or around 6 million dollars. This film also had a sale of approximately 40000 blu-ray disks in Japan.

Even the production company Kadokawa would not have expected this much business on a budget of 1.5 million dollars. The chances for Konosuba Season 3 also increased after the successful movie business. So, we can say the same for the No Game No Life Season 2.

The things we said above are only few of the main ways for an anime franchise to earn its revenue. Other than that the few notable ones include revenue from OST aka soundtracks, opening ending songs, International streaming license for companies like Yen Press, Sentai, Crunchyroll & Hulu, and many other collaborations.

One thing we are sure of is that this franchise does make lots of money. So we can say for certain that profits won’t be a thing to hinder chances for No game No Life Season 2. But if the site has lost its popularity this year, this might be another thing.

We will be presenting our method in 3 sections to let the fans of Accel World know a possibility for a sequel of Accel World.

So let us start with our analysis of this franchise.

The thing that makes our claim strong is that the light novel sales are seeing a decline with each passing year. The copies sold since volume 16 amounts to about 19000 copies.

Ironically, despite having bad sales figures, Accel World still holds the spot in the list of “Top 3 Best Seller per Volume for light Novel”. The sales are better than other popular franchises like Kenja No Mago. So, if we get the Kenja No Mago Season 2 but no Accel world Season 2, it would be a really saddening thing.

Merchandise:

The brightest thing about Accel World is that it has around 100 figurines of its characters with 70 percent of them of the character Black Lotus. As for the 30 percent, they are of characters like Scarlet Rain, Silver Crow, and Chiyuri. Other than that franchise also has 250 other smaller merchandise items such as t-shirts, keychains, clear files, straps, plushies, cushions, mugs, and many others.

Most of the figurines were released after the success of the Accel World Season 1 and were mostly of the character Black Lotus. This number of figurines and merchandise items is not really bad but we expected a little bit more from an anime like Accel World. This is while considering that the Accel World Season 1 got released back in 2010.

Box Office Business of Accel World Movie:

The move for Accel World titled “Infinite Burst” was a big success at the box office in Japan. It did a business of around 115 million Japanese yen or 1 million dollars. The film also had 7000 of blu-ray copies sold as well as Viz Media releasing the movie in the USA in 2019 in English dubbing.

While you might think that 115 million yen box office business is bad for an anime movie, there are other aspects of it. This movie was released only on 19 screens with it being half-recap. Still, the Blu-ray sales for the movie were great. Considering all these aspects of movie sales and business, they boost the chances for a sequel.

Accel World Game:

The first game for Accel World had a sale of approximately 30000 copies with the 2^nd game selling around 20000 copies. Then, there is also the Accel World * Sword Art Online game with a sale of 80000 copies. When comparing the sales of Accel World games with the sale of games for other animes, Accel World did a little well above them. A sequel of the first game is enough of proof as to how well the game delivered for fans. Also, these games came with OVA bundles that helped these sales.

All the things stated above are some of the many ways a franchise generates revenues. All of them are hard to be explained here but some of them are OST, songs at opening & end of the anime episode, international streaming licenses for Funimation and Crunchyroll, streaming on the platform Hulu, and others.

CONCLUSION:

These anime sales were great and it also delivered a decent profit amount for the production house Kadokawa. The season 1 also contributed towards increased light novel sales making them reach 100K+ sales for each volume. This makes one thing clear that profits won’t be the hindrance for making of Accel World Season 2.
